The Microsystem Technologies Development Centre (MTDC) focuses on several key research areas including III-V compound semiconductor growth, device and Integrated Circuit fabrications, Photonics and System-on-Chip Circuit design. Its main objective is to support advanced R&D and build up the indigenous capabilities to meet Singapore’s defence needs in microsystem and related technologies. MTDC takes a long term view in its capabilities build-up by engaging in R&D at various levels from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 1-3 to higher TRL level of 4-6. To stay in the forefront of the R&D landscape, MTDC has constantly established joint collaborations with both local and international renowned universities, research institutes and government agencies. Another strong emphasis of MTDC is on its manpower development and retention. It strongly believes that one of the most important criteria to ensure successful long term R&D/ TD is the constant fueling of talented manpower. To achieve this, MTDC actively work hand-in-hand with Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, Polytechnics and the Universities to train students through programmes such as Industrial Attachment, Final Year Project, Young Defence Scientist Programme (YDSP) and Undergraduate Research Experience on Campus (URECA). To date, MTDC has trained many students to provide them with hands-on experience through such programmes.
